The countdown is well and truly on for Sam Fender's sure to be epic gigs at St James' Park this weekend and one thing many fans are asking is - just what songs will be on the setlist? And, given that Sam hasn't played any headline gigs for a while and he's sure to want to do something special for Newcastle, just what tracks will make the cut is hard to judge.
Sam last played in Newcastle at a fundraising show at O2 City Hall towards the end of last year, a month before he made a delayed debut at Glastonbury and blew everyone away at Worthy Farm. Since then, he has also played a massive show at London's Finsbury Park and toured across the world.
The North Shields musician had a real 'pinch me' moment last month, when he not only met his biggest musical hero, Bruce Springsteen, but he and his band also got to open for the Dancing in the Dark legend in Italy.
Those were the last gigs that Sam played and with being a support, the setlist for those was considerably shorter than for a headline gig. Fans going to St James' Park will be expecting all the anthems from Sam's first two albums, like Hypersonic Missiles, Will We Talk, Play God, The Borders, Saturday and Dead Boys from the first and Seventeen Going Under, Getting Started, Get You Down and Spit of You from the second, as well as big fan favourites Howdon Aldi Death Queue, That Sound and Spice.
Sam has also been working hard on his third LP, shocking everyone at Newcastle bar Prohibition over the Easter weekend, by sitting down a debuting a new song on the piano, so don't rule out some new material at St James' too.
And then there's the rumours that Sam is lining up Newcastle legends to join him on stage, which could also lead to a few setlist surprises just for Newcastle.
