Sam Fender's band leave Brits on golf buggy chanting 'Toon Toon' after award win

Sam Fender's band left the O2 Arena on a golf buggy chanting 'Toon Toon!' after the North Shields singer won a Brit Award on Tuesday night.

With the trophy voted for by TikTok users, Sam was the hot tip to triumph in the Best Rock/Alternative category and he lived up to expectations by seeing off competition from the likes of Coldplay and Tom Grennan to win.

After celebrating at their table, Sam and his bandmates headed up to the winner's rostrum to accept their award from legendary rocker, Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood.

In his acceptance speech Sam thanked fans, his manager Owain Davies, who discovered him at Low Lights Tavern in Shields 10 years ago and "everyone back in Shields," for their support.

Hours earlier Sam and the band hit the Brits red carpet,. with saxophone player Johnny 'Blue Hat' Davis wearing a retro Newcastle United top for the occasion.

He kept that on for the ceremony itself, with NUFC fans delighting at seeing the black and white stripes on screen.

And the Newcastle theme continued into the night as the band left the arena on a golf buggy.

Their antics were shared on Instagram by guitarist Dean Thompson, with him and the rest of the band chanting 'Toon Toon' as they headed away from the O2.

Prior to the ceremony, Dean took to Instagram to post: "JESUS CHRIST. These nerves/excitement are totally overwhelming. Keep your fingers, toes, legs, arms and eyes crossed we don’t absolutely fill our kegs live on TV.

"ITS COMING HOME TO NE29 MAN!!!!! (Manifest, manifest, manifest)"
