Sam Fender is relying on some local support to help him bag one of three awards he's up for at this year's Brits after a huge change in the voting system.
North Shields singer Sam, who won the Critics Choice accolade at the Brits back in 2019, has had an absolutely incredible 12 months.
As well as second album Seventeen Going Under going straight in at number 1, outselling the rest of the top 10 in the process, Sam sold out venues across the UK on his latest tour, including the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.
The arena was packed out as Sam made a triumphant return to home turf, walking on stage to the strains of Local Hero as Newcastle United flags were waved in his honour.

And now, Hyprersonic Missiles star Sam is up for three Brit Awards.
When the nominations for this year were announced back in December, Sam found himself on the shortlist for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Rock/Alternative, with him up against Coldplay, Glass Animals, Tom Grennan and Wolf Alice for the latter.
While the winners of the Artist and Album categories will be decided by the Brits panel it's down to fans to vote for Best Rock/Alternative.
And, for the first time in Brits history, voting is being done on TikTok.
Voting is open now and users of TikTok will be able to cast up to 10 votes per category, per day, with vote limits resetting at midnight GMT every night for the duration of the voting window.
As well as Sam's category, TikTok users will also decide the winner of Dance Act, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act and Pop/R&B Act.
