Sam Fender has been inundated with support from fans, fellow musicians and a host of celebrities after announcing he's taking a break from the spotlight to focus on his mental heath.
In a candid and moving statement published on his Instagram on Monday evening, Sam wrote: "It seems completely hypocritical of me to advocate discussion on mental health and write songs about it if I don't take the time to look after my own mental health. I've neglected myself for over a year now and haven't dealt with things that have deeply affected me. It is impossible to do this work on myself while on the road and it's exhausting feigning happiness and wellness for the sake of the business."
He added: "My friends and colleagues have been worried about me for a while and it's not going to get better unless I take the time to do so."
North Shields star Sam went on to praise his fans for their "love and support," before announcing he was cancelling a series of gigs in America as he didn't want to to go on stage and not give his all.
The Brit winner went onto say that he and his band are massively grateful for their "awesome fan base," and supporter have rallied round the 28-year-olds in the aftermath of his statement going out on social media.
Sam has also had well wishes from others in the entertainment industry including Geordie DJ Patrick Topping who commented on the Instagram post to write: " Hope you’re ok mate," while Scarlett Moffatt reacted: " Sending lots of love my geordie pal."
Rockers The Amazons told Sam: "This is an incredibly brave decision to take mate. The pressure to push through for the team and the fans is soo real. Thankful to you for taking the decision and hoping other artists feel like they can do too ," while McFly star Danny Jones reacted with black and white hearts."
Sam has also been flooded with countless messages from his many fans, with one replying to his post to write: "I think I speak for all of us when I say, I would much rather read about you taking a break and cancelling shows than reading about you hitting breaking point."
Another commented: "our fans aren’t going anywhere!!!!! We love you and are behind you every step of the way, for the darker times and the times we get to go absolutely mental with you," and a third reacted: " Good on you Sammy, feel better soon, toon's always proud of you."
