World Network, the digital identity project backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has secured $52.5 million in fresh funding as it expands efforts to verify human identities online amid growing concerns over bots, impersonation and deepfakes.

The development comes at a time when governments and technology companies are increasingly grappling with the impact of artificial intelligence on online ecosystems. The proliferation of AI-generated content has prompted renewed discussions around identity verification, digital trust and authentication tools across social media, financial services and enterprise platforms.
