Salts Healthcare targets new markets with Swedish acquisition

A Birmingham healthcare company has expanded its international reach with the acquisition of a Swedish firm. Aston-based Salts Healthcare has acquired ostomy product supplier MCare.

The acquisition is part of Salts Healthcare's continued strategy to increase its global presence.

Having grown its turnover and market share in the UK in recent years, the family-owned business now has defined international markets across five continents.

Salts Healthcare, which was founded in Wolverhampton in 1701, designs and manufactures products for people living with a stoma and is still 100 per cent family owned.

Brothers Peter and Robert Salt are the tenth generation of the Salt family to be at the helm.

Chief executive Peter said: "We are very pleased to welcome MCare into the Salts Healthcare family. We have worked closely with MCare for many years and know they also share the same values and ethics.

"We look forward to a successful business journey across Sweden and Scandinavia but most importantly continuing to support the many customers across this region.

"Director Maud Jägerman built MCare AB into a fantastic business which has grown from strength to strength over the past 20 years.

"She has built an excellent working relationship across all stoma care networks within Scandinavia and has always had patient care at the centre of the business.

"With a growing headcount and turnover now touching £120 million, our expansion is a success by investing in the best people in the healthcare industry and giving them freedom to grow too."

Ms Jägerman added: "Being a registered nurse, it has been a pure pleasure to build a business that actually helps people.

"It has been wonderful to see customers' lives improved by supplying stoma care products. Not everybody can say their job helps improve lives.

"I am very proud of what MCare has achieved over the past 20 years, including supplying Salts Healthcare products, and have seen how they have been at the forefront of innovation. It is with joy and peace of mind that I am handing over my business to Salts."
