Salford has beaten Manchester to be named the best city for street food in the whole of the UK. Manchester’s neighbouring city even beat London to the top slot, based on various data collated by food truck makers Diamond Trailers.
It picked up the data from takeaway site Just Eat’s listings of street food takeaways across the country. The number of takeaways per capita and the cost per meal was then crunched in order to find the UK top 10.

Manchester has 387 listed street food takeaways, making 33 per 100,000 people and with a £10 average cost. Salford, by comparison, as 321 listed street food takeaways, meaning there are 126 per 100,000 people, with the same average price of £10 per meal.
This compares to London’s nearly nine million population and 1197 listed street food takeaways, making for just 13 per 100,000 people. The numbers landed London in 20th place in the chart, while Salford and Manchester were followed by Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Liverpool in the top five.
