England Health Secretary Sajid Javid said it was time to "learn to live with Covid" as he spoke about the scrapping of Plan B rules on mask wearing and working from home.
From Thursday, January 27, people will no longer be required to work from home and Covid passports will no longer be needed to get into large venues and events.
In classrooms, face coverings will no longer be required from tomorrow,
From March 24, or possibly before, people will no longer need to self-isolate if they test positive for Covid.
Mr Javid said the Government is also looking at where else restrictions can be eased and he would set out our plans to further ease restrictions on visits to care homes over the next few days.
He told a press conference at Downing Street: "We cannot eradicate this virus and its future variants.
"Instead we must learn to live with Covid in the same way as we have learned to live with flu.
"We must stay vigilant and mindful that there could be bumps in the road ahead.
"I'd urge everyone to think about what they can do to keep the virus at bay.
"The best step that we can all take is to get vaccinated. It was the jabs that have got us this far and the jabs can keep us here too."
Mr Javid said the Government was looking to replace legal requirements on self-isolation with guidance and advice
He hailed what he described as England's "balanced approach" to restrictions in the face of the Omicron variant, adding: "These measures left us with far fewer restrictions than most in Europe and they brought us valuable time."
