Sajid Javid's brother 'oversaw PartyGate complaints' amid 'stitch-up' claim

Accusations of an "establishment stitch-up" have been levelled at Scotland Yard as it's revealed that a senior officer overseeing PartyGate complaints is closely related to a top Cabinet member.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Bas Javid, is the brother of Health Secretary Sajid Javid and is the second-highest ranking police officer in the Met Police department that decided, together with other senior officers, not to investigate the force's handling of the party allegations, reports the Mirror.

The brothers, who grew up in Bristol, were accused by a Green Party peer of creating the appearance of "stark corruption".

Green Party peer Jenny Jones, told The Mirror : “To many people this will look like stark corruption and with so many complaints coming in and the press reports, the Met must have known the reputational damage it was taking.

"It looks like an establishment stitch up," she added.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “Every complaint was assessed individually by the Directorate of Professional Standards, under the oversight of a Detective Superintendent who made the decision on what, if any, action would be required.

“As is usual practice, the decision was shared with the Deputy Assistant Commissioner.”
