Reinforcements may be on the way for the embattled New Orleans Saints offensive line. The team reported multiple veteran tryouts at the facility on Thursday, including a former member of their practice squad: Tulane’s John Leglue from Alexandria, La.
Here’s what you need to know about each player and what they might have to offer:
Bobby Hart
Hart, 29, is a former seventh-round pick by the New York Giants back in 2015 out of Florida State. He has started 67 of the 85 games he’s played in the NFL for five different teams primarily at right tackle but with occasional looks at left tackle and both guard spots. He joined the Detroit Lions for training camp this summer but didn’t make the team after auditioning at right tackle.
Cam Erving
Erving, 31, was also picked in the 2015 draft out of Florida State — but he was a first rounder with the Cleveland Browns. He won a Super Bowl championship with the Kansas City Chiefs and has also made stops with the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers during his 95-game career (56 starts), predominately lining up at left tackle (1,514 career snaps) and left guard (1,156) while sometimes getting looks at center and right guard. He’s only logged 41 snaps at right tackle in the NFL.
John Leglue
Leglue, 27, is a local product out of Tulane who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos; he’s also been with the Saints before, having signed with their practice squad for most of his rookie season in 2019. He’s since bounced around the league with the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans. He’s appeared in just 6 games in the NFL but started 5 of them, all at left guard with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s also seen time at all five spots along the offensive line in preseason with most of his experience at right guard (179 snaps).
Colby Gosset
Gossett, 28, was a sixth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings back in 2018 out of Appalachian State; he’s only started 5 of the 19 games he’s played in the NFL since then, making appearances with five different teams. He spent the summer with the Cleveland Browns but didn’t make the cut for their roster. He’s lined up at both guard spots as a pro, more often on the right side (391 snaps) than the left (127).
