Let’s start with the good news. The New Orleans Saints announced that they’ll be wearing their fan-favorite black home jerseys and matching black pants in Week 9’s game with the Baltimore Ravens, a prime-time affair broadcast nationally on Monday Night Football. It’s an iconic look, and it’ll be the same uniform combo they wore in last week’s rout of the Las Vegas Raiders, so there’s some positive momentum coming along with it.
Now the bad news, for the superstitious out there: this uniform combination carries the lowest winning percentage (.578) of all variants worn by the Saints dating back to 2006, with a win-loss record of 48-35, including playoff games. So while the Saints have still won often in the all-black uniforms, it’s not exactly invincible. If you’re curious, here are the Saints have achieved in each of their different uniform permutations during their modern era:
- White jerseys, white pants: 94 (.692)
- “Black and Gold” throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
- White jerseys, black pants: 42-26 (.618)
- Black jerseys, gold pants: 24-15 (.615)
- White jerseys, gold pants: 37-24 (.607)
- “Color Rush” alternates: 9-6 (.600)
- Black jerseys, black pants: 48-35 (.578)
