Shoppers ridiculed the "poor maths" at a Sainsbury's branch after they spotted a mistake by the retailer. The supermarket recently introduced its 'Nectar Prices' for those with loyalty cards, similar to the discounts offered by Tesco and Asda.
The new prices reward people who have a Nectar card, reducing food bills as the cost of living crisis continues. Sainsbury's previously explained shoppers can "save big" with the new scheme.
However, one shopper found an embarrassing mistake in one of its stores advertising the scheme, as reported by Birmingham Live. Reddit user catsandveg spotted a trolley that was full of food items with the caption: "Spotted in my local Sainsbury's - not sure this quite adds up"

It claims that if you bought the trolley, it would have cost £190.25 but with Nectar Prices, it would only cost £135.90. But the big mistake comes when they they claim shoppers could save "£8.50" which is incorrect.
The picture immediately resulted in hilarious replies in the Reddit thread from shoppers as well as criticism of Nectar Prices. eastkent added: "That's some great anti-advertising there. £190 for a small trolley of stuff at Sainsburys? Someone hold me back."
cmzraxsn chimed in and joked: "Oh god they're not starting that too are they? it's literally the only reason i go to the local sainsbo's sometimes and never tesco's. i mean actually i get the bulk of my stuff from lidl but hey."
And karlo43210 said: "More reason why only shop Aldi/Lidl for the bulk of my shopping".
Simon Roberts, Chief Executive Officer at Sainsbury’s, said: “We are delighted to launch Nectar Prices, which will help millions of our customers save more on every trip to Sainsbury’s.
There is much more to look forward to, we will keep refreshing Nectar Prices and increasing the variety of products on offer. It gets better, Nectar customers who shop in store with SmartShop will receive extra personalised value with Your Nectar Prices, bringing them the best prices on their favourite products.
"Our customers really are at the heart of every decision we make and we hope they find that Nectar Prices is an exciting way to bring them consistently great value all year round."
