Sainsbury's recall packs of Mexican-style chilli cheddar over Salmonella fears

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is recalling packs of Mexican Style Chilli Cheddar over fears the product may contain Salmonella.

The grocer made the move over 200g packs of the cheese which show a 'best before' date of June 12, 22 and 30 of this year.

The alert was posted on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, which reported the 'possible presence of Salmonella' and warned: "Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

Customers were urged not to consume products showing the dates mentioned and to return them for a full refund. Other products and date codes were not affected, according to Sainsbury's.

The supermarket said on its recall notice: "Sainsbury's apologises for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation."

The FSA alert came at the same time as two other product recalls.

The agency also reported Lily’s Kitchen is recalling a batch of its Fishy Fish Pie and a batch of Chicken and Turkey Casserole 'because they may contain pieces of plastic'.

The alert went on: "The possible presence of plastic makes the products unsafe to eat for your pets and presents a potential choking hazard."

The Fishy Fish Pie warning concerns 400g cans sold at Pets At Home as part of a grain free wet adult dog multipack of 24 such cans.

The Chicken and Turkey Casserole is also in 400g cans sold at the same retailer in a multipack of 24.

Customers are urged not to feed them to pets and to contact Lily's Kitchen for a refund with or without a receipt, according to the bulletin.

In a third alert, the FSA said itsu (grocery) is recalling its frozen itsu 4 chocolate bao’buns as some packs may contain milk which is not declared on the label.

The bulletin said: "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

It continued: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents do not eat it. For a full refund, send a photograph of the best before date to customerservice@itsugrocery.com or write to them at itsu (grocery), Partnership House, Carlisle Place, London, SW1P 1BX. For more information contact itsu on 0333 224 9510."
