Sainsbury's launches new scheme across 800 stores to help shoppers save money

Sainsbury's has launched a new price campaign across its 800 convenience stores.

The supermarket has introduced "Pocket Friendly Prices" on household essentials such as chicken breast fillets, butter and cherry tomatoes.

Sainsbury's told the Mirror that the new signage will help customers locate the cheaper everyday products in its convenience stores, and in turn help them save money.

The Pocket Friendly Prices signage will consist of red shelf labels, ceiling banners and point of sale signs.

The big four chains started to introduce the Pocket Friendly Prices signage in its stores this week and they will be used in all Sainsbury’s Local stores.

A spokesperson said: “We're committed to doing everything we can to support customers with the rising cost of living.

"Our Pocket Friendly Prices highlight low prices on everyday essentials in our convenience stores.

"Customers will be able to find great value on popular items such as By Sainsbury’s chicken breast fillets, butter and baked beans.”

It comes after Sainsbury’s launched new Nectar Prices, where shoppers get exclusive lower prices in stores for being a member of its loyalty scheme.

Customers with a loyalty card get discounts on 300 items - in a move that is identical to Tesco Clubcard Prices.

As an example, shoppers get a third off Heinz Baked Beans, paying 95p instead of £1.40.

Customers can also save on Ariel All-in-1 pods, which will cost £5 instead of £10.50.

Sainsbury’s shoppers get one Nectar point for every £1 spent in stores and online, or for every litre of fuel purchased at a Sainsbury’s petrol station.

Bonus points are also available if you’re a Sainsbury’s Energy or Sainsbury’s Bank customer.

Of course, Nectar isn’t only limited to Sainsbury’s - you get points when you shop with other retailers including Argos and Habitat.

Each point is worth 0.5p to spend in Sainsbury's stores - so 100 points are therefore 50p.

You can also convert your Nectar points into Avios to spend on British Airways flights, with 400 Nectar points currently worth 250 Avios.

Sainsbury’s shoppers get bonus Nectar points on certain items in store, typically based on products you normally buy.

You have to open your Nectar app to see your current offers.

At the time, Sainsbury's chief executive Simon Roberts said the discounts were "just the beginning" in terms of helping shoppers through the cost of living crisis.

He added: “We are delighted to launch Nectar Prices, which will help millions of our customers save more on every trip to Sainsbury’s.

“There is much more to look forward to, we will keep refreshing Nectar Prices and increasing the variety of products on offer.

“It gets better, Nectar customers who shop in store with SmartShop will receive extra personalised value with Your Nectar Prices, bringing them the best prices on their favourite products.

“Our customers really are at the heart of every decision we make and we hope they find that Nectar Prices is an exciting way to bring them consistently great value all year round.”
