Sainsbury's hit with complaints as people told not to buy item

Sainsbury's has issued a "warning" on Instagram as it pleaded with customers not to buy its scones.

Many people are planning street parties this weekend to celebrate King Charles' coronation, and supermarkets have brought out a range of novelty products for the occasion. Sainsbury's is no different, having released some orange, sultana and blossom scones "for afternoon tea".

They come in packs of four for £1.75.

On Wednesday, the retailer took to Instagram to share a reel of the scones and said: "Don't buy these!" Continuing the joke, the post added: "Cream and jam will just ruin them. They're too moreish... Everyone will want a bite."

The camera then panned across a delicious looking spread and the post added: "They'll ruin your afternoon tea [winking face emoji]".

Shoppers are clearly loving the scones if the comments section of the post is anything to go by. @oneandonlymrst said: "These are sooo nice… on our second packet already" [sic], while @thekidsfoodedit said they were "fit for a king".

However, the post also received a number of complaints. Phoebe said: "JAM THEN CREAM THE PROPER WAY", while Amanda said: "Careful, this could cause a Cornish uprising. The jam goes on first".

SK said: "You don't put the cream on first" and Sarah said: "Has @dawnrfrecnh seen what you've done here? JAM GOES FIRST!"
