Changes are afoot at Sainsbury's. But before you panic, it is good news for shoppers. The supermarket giant has teamed up with an online meal ordering and delivery firm with the aim of adding a faster home delivery service to its customers.
Under the deal, shoppers will be able to order through the Just Eat app everything from fresh milk and vegetables to household essentials - in fact more than 3,000 products will be available for delivery. A rider will pick up their order and deliver it to the customer within half an hour.
According to a report in the Mirror, the service will be in place from the end of February and will be accessible through 175 Sainsbury's stores nationwide with hopes that the partnership will expand further before the end of the year. The delivery service already has partnership deals with Asda, wholesaler Booker, which is part of market leader Tesco, and the bakery chain Greggs.

Sainsbury's already offers its own 'Chop Chop' fast delivery service in partnership with Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The Just Eat deal is in addition to these services.
Amy Heather, director of strategic accounts at Just Eat, said that its grocery service was "going from strength to strength", adding that it "continues to be an area of significant focus". She said: "We're excited to be working with Sainsbury's to bring even more choice and flexibility to our customers when ordering the food and products they want, when they want."
Grocery deliveries such as this have grown rapidly since the Covid-19 pandemic, and other grocery-specific delivery businesses like Getir and Gorillas have become common sights in the UK, especially within the capital.
Siobhan McMullan-Finnegan-Dehn, director of eCommerce at Sainsbury's, said: "We are always on the lookout for more ways to make our customers' lives easier and we look forward to working with Just Eat and to serving more shoppers with even more great value and quality Sainsbury's products."
