Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to scour the biggest clothing specialist retailers to find the ideal on-trend sandals. The quality of the offerings posed by supermarket alternatives can prove surprising, and one particular product has had fashion editors fawning over them.
Sainsbury's price their range of Birkenstock-esque sliders at just £6 and fashion expert Harriet Walker, of The Times, admits that these are her footwear of choice for the summer season. With many people feeling the pinch of the cost of living crisis, these challenging times make it very difficult for shoppers to justify paying over the odds for an in-season item.
Although that doesn't mean that you have to go down the disposable fast-fashion route to find your next wardrobe hit, as Walker argues. Finding value buys with longevity potential, while also being beneficial to the planet, is a difficult task, but knowing where to look is the key.
A great place to look for the lowest prices is a supermarket and their accompanying clothing outlet. Sainsbury's has Tu as its line of retail, with it being the sixth largest clothing retailer in the UK by volume.
Walker identified these £6 Birkenstock-style sliders as the ideal cheap sandal for the summer. They are available in many colours including yellow, orange and strawberry pink. They are striking in their appearance, down to their noisy, bright nature, with the fashion editor arguing that they “bear more than a passing resemblance to a designer version on sale for £200.”
Birkenstocks amazingly fuse functionality and fashion, duly becoming a core shoe in many a summer wardrobe. They are timeless sandals which are both classic and comfortable.
Tu has described its green pool sliders as "the ultimate perfect poolside accessory", with "an extra-comfy moulded inner sole and a gripped outer sole".
The green option received 12 reviews and it has proved hugely popular, with 11 people leaving five stars along with a solitary four-star review. The comfort of wearing them was evident in their comments left, with one reviewer stating that they wear them everywhere with everything.
If these aren't quite to your taste, Sainsbury's also sell a more attractive range with more in-depth designs than the standard block colours. Just £1 more expensive, at £7, these also represent a great budget sandal, with varieties of these particular pool sliders coming in the form of blue daisy floral, black cheetah print, rose print and tropical print.
