JACKSON, Miss. – It’s time for the weekend.
The first two rounds of the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship at The Country Club of Jackson are complete. It’s the second event of the PGA Tour’s 2022-23 season. Scores were lower during the second round, as numerous players climbed up the leaderboard to put themselves in position ahead of moving day.
Thomas Detry fired his second consecutive round of 5-under 67, and he leads at 10-under 134. Mackenzie Hughes caught fire Friday, shooting 8-under 64, and he’s one back of Detry. Sepp Straka is tied with Hughes after his round of 6-under 66.
The cut was 2-under 142. There are 78 players moving on to the weekend.
Here’s a look at a few notable names who missed the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship:
Sahith Theegala (even par)
It was a tough week for Sahith Theegala, who led or co led after the first, second and third rounds last year as a rookie. Theegala shot 1-under 71 on Friday, but he was unable to get inside the cutline after a poor performance on Thursday.
Gary Woodland (even par)
Gary Woodland played consistent golf at The Country Club of Jackson. He shot consecutive rounds of even-par 72, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut. He hasn’t won since the 2019 U.S. Open.
Harry Higgs (3 over)
Harry Higgs was in position to make a move up the leaderboard during the second round, but that wasn’t the case. After opening in even par, Higgs shot 3-over 75 on Friday to miss the cut.
J.T. Poston (6 over)
J.T. Poston is beginning his 2022-23 season the same way he did last year: with a missed cut. Poston missed six straight last season, but he eventually finished T-2 at the Travelers Championship and won the John Deere Classic. Poston opened with a 4-over 76 and then shot 2-over 74 on Friday, but if the past is any indication, he’ll find his form soon.
Harris English (4 over)
Harris English missed a big part of the 2021-22 season because of a hip injury, and he’s still trying to find his form. The 2021 U.S. Ryder Cup team member shot 75-73 in Jackson.
Jimmy Walker (3 over)
Jimmy Walker finished tied for 25th at the Fortinet Championship, but a slow start Thursday put him behind. He shot even par in the second round, but he needed to go low to play the weekend.
Trey Mullinax (1 under)
Trey Mullinax earned his first PGA Tour win two months ago at the Barbasol Championship, and he nearly punched his ticket to play the weekend in Jackson. After opening with 3-over 75, Mullinax shot 4-under 68 on Friday but missed the cut by one.
Russell Henley (4 over)
Consecutive rounds of 74 assisted Russell Henley, one of the higher-ranked players in the field, to head home early.
