KOLKATA: The last edition had been a heartbreak for the Indian women's team as they were outplayed in the 2019 final by hosts Bangladesh. But on Friday, at BSSSMK Stadium in Dhaka, the Indian girls bid those demons adieu as they began their SAFF U19 Women's Championship campaign with a thumping 10-0 win over Bhutan.
It was also a winning start for Sukla Dutta as the head coach of the U19 team as her wards looked to have taken her advice of leaving the past behind en route decimating the Bhutan defence. The goal scoring stars for India were Pooja (31', 58', 59', 90+4') with four goals and Sibani Devi (8', 19, 36'), who hit a first-half hat-trick. India's tally reached double figures as striker Sulanjana Raul (53') and substitutes Menaka Lourembam (61') and Arina Devi (73') added three more to it.
