NEW DELHI: Delhi Fire Service is planning to train women and girls living in slum areas in fire safety. With unusually high day temperatures for this time of the year, there has been an increase in the number of fires in the city and JJ clusters are especially vulnerable to blazes.
DFS has discovered that in most cases of daytime fires, male members of the household are out at work. The female members, including housewives and daughters, are the ones who have to deal with fire, fuel and LPG cylinders. “If they panic or get confused during household fires, it may result in injuries and casualties,” a fire officer said. “Should they remain calm in the situation, they have better chances of saving themselves and other kin.”
