Safety concerns at a deadly quarry are set to be addressed following the death of a teenage boy.
Jamie Lewin's body was found in the water of Appley Bridge quarry after a report that a boy had entered the water and got into difficulty at around 9.40pm on Saturday, July 9. Since then a number of tributes have been made to the 16-year-old from Southport.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: "A young life cut short in this way is a terrible tragedy that cannot be expressed adequately in words. Our deepest sympathies go out to this young man's family at what is an unimaginably difficult time."

The council has also confirmed it is now working with the owners of the quarry to address safety issues and discuss the quarry's future.
The council warned that although it is tempting to swim outdoors in hot weather, particularly during the school holidays, people are urged to follow safety advice around open water swimming and stay away from sites such as this. People can visit Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for advice and information.
Earlier today Steph Lewin, Jamie's mum, released a moving tribute to her son. She said: "Jamie was a promising boxer who loved life and had so much to look forward to. He was so loved by everyone.
"He touched so many peoples’ lives in such a short time, he really did spread himself far. He really was one in a million. I'm so happy I was his mum. He was only 16 and so full of life and so happy."
