People living in a Nottinghamshire village have voiced their sadness over the closure of a pub described as the 'hub of the community'. The Spread Eagle in Caunton Road, Hockerton, had been in operation since the 1930s but was put up for sale earlier this year following the impact of the pandemic on businesses.
Villagers say they miss having a pub, and that they now have to travel to Southwell, Kelham or Caunton. Retired, William Boucher, 78, has lived opposite the pub for half a century.
He said: "We have been here 50 years and it's been here all that time. It's been a good pub, it's a shame it's closed."
