Sadio Mane has ‘told Liverpool teammates he is leaving’ the club this summer following on from their Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid.
Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the game, two minutes before the hour mark, to seal the Spanish giant’s 14 th Champions League title and ensure that an incredible season for the Reds ended with disappointment. It came less than a week after Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.
The Reds are now set to suffer another setback with the news that Senegalese forward Mane is set to quit Anfield after six seasons at the club. The 30-year-olid is likely to be in high demand after a world class spell on Merseyside, where he netted 120 goals for the club.
Bayern Munich are desperate to sign the Liverpool forward this summer as the 30-year-old only has 12 months left on his current contract. Reds forward Mane has insisted that he will not make any announcement on his future until after the Champions League final and a public announcement is now thought to be imminent.
Multiple reports, led by Diario AS, highlights how Mane informed his Liverpool teammates of his intention of moving on from the club this summer in the dressing room in the Stade de France following on from the Champions League final loss.
The Senegalese forward was part of a Reds attack that was blunted by Real Madrid ’s sturdy defence and an outstanding individual performance from opposition goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The former Chelsea shot-stopper made an outstanding save from Mane in the first half, getting his fingertips onto a powerful effort that appeared to be destined for the bottom corner of the net and tipped it onto the post.

Mane has taken the definitive decision to leave the club, as the reports state, following on from a season in which he added the FA Cup and EFL Cup trophies to his silverware won at Anfield. The former Southampton forward won the Champions League title with Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2019 and then the Premier League crown the following year.
The forward began his professional career at French club Metz before starring for two seasons at Red Bull Salzburg, before joining Southampton in the summer of 2014. Two productive campaigns on the English South Coast preceded his switch to Liverpool in the first summer transfer window under Klopp.
Mane became part of a fearsome three-pronged attack alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, but the additions of Diogo Jot and Luis Diaz in recent times has ensured great rotation. However, Mane has remained a regular starter alongside Salah and Diaz.
