Sadio Mane admission could mean Liverpool are prepared to cash in on Mohamed Salah

Liverpool may be able to facilitate the departure of Mohamed Salah if they are unable to reach an agreement with the forward to commit his future to the club.

The Egyptian’s contract at Anfield expires in 2023 and the club are keen to tie the forward down on a long-term deal so he can spearhead their attack for the foreseeable future.

Salah has made it very clear that he has every intention of remaining a Liverpool player, but an agreement is yet to be reached on what salary he would earn which reflects just how crucial he is to the Reds.

But Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on the winger if contract talks continue to stall until the summer.

That is because Sadio Mane previously admitted he was happy to switch positions to accommodate new signings – namely Salah when he joined from AS Roma - and may move off of the left-wing to allow Luis Diaz to play in his preferred position.

Speaking in 2017, Mane was asked about moving onto the left, to which he replied: "I am able to play every forward position. I don't have a problem with that. I have played left-wing, right-wing and striker -- it's no problem for me."

Diaz arrived from FC Porto in January for £37.5million and is already impressing at Merseyside, with his display against Leicester City on Thursday night drawing plenty of praise.

The Colombian has spent the majority of his career deployed out on the left-wing and thus, whilst adjusting to a new league, it would be a major risk for Jurgen Klopp to ask the forward to switch flanks.

Whereas Mane originally arrived at Liverpool as a right-winger and therefore it would not be unnatural for the Senegalese star to return to the position where he originally caught the eye of Klopp at Southampton.

If the Reds continue to be unable to reach a deal with Salah and his representatives then a front line of Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mane is more than capable of winning trophies at the club.

But former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that it should not even be a consideration for Liverpool’s life without Salah. He told ITV : “He’s 29 but the modern player, they’re machines I don’t think it’s no issue. From Liverpool’s point of view, it’s business they’ve got to try and negotiate

“You’ve got to get him signed on, he’s one of the greatest players in the world, you’ve got to get it done. If it goes into next season you really start to worry but try and get it done and dusted

“They might not have a choice, it’s up to the player, the player’s in charge he said he’s happy and he’s obviously going to try and negotiate a bit of steel but he’s going to to get a lot of money anyway.

"It might be that he wants a new experience. But he’s said a number of times he’s happy here, he’s loved here, but Liverpool have got to try and get him signed you can’t just let players like that go out of the door, particularly on a free."
