Sacked Tory minister Michael Gove raves it up in Ibiza as millions face bills crisis

Sacked Tory minister Michael Gove parties the night away in Ibiza. while millions face a cost of living crisis back home.

The ex-Minister for Levelling Up is pictured at a bar in the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, one of the Spanish holiday isle’s top dance venues.

Fired by lame duck PM Boris Johnson last month, Mr Gove, 55, is clearly not letting the political setback get him down while in the Med with his children Beatrice and William.

The hotel’s owners claim guests can expect the very best in VIP treatment, with champagne, oysters and caviar on offer whilst “surrounded by beautiful people” and “international celebrities”.

A website urges revellers to “dance, be amazed by the spectacle, feel the energy of Ushuaïa Ibiza, and enjoy the world’s best DJs.” It also encourages guests to “get into the groove of those who break the rules.”

It is not the first time Mr Gove has been spotted partying. Last summer he gave the nation a giggle after he was seen doing some dodgy dance moves at a nightclub in Aberdeen.

Mr Gove - MP for Surrey Heath since 2005 - has twice run to be leader of the Tory party and backs Rishi Sunak in the current contest.

The snap of Mr Gove’s fun in Spain comes after Boris Johnson was pictured holidaying in Greece and Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab was filmed dabbling in a spot of Laser Quest while the PM was in Ukraine.

Martial arts enthusiast Mr Raab was seen taking part in the two-hour session at a Laser Tag centre in Horsham, West Sussex, on Wednesday.

The pictures of partying MPs have added to a growing sense that the Prime Minister is leading a “zombie government” at a time of economic crisis as the ongoing Truss v Sunak leadership contest rolls into September.

Millions face a cos-of-living crunch, with average energy bills expected to rise to £3,549 a year in October. It is also feared that inflation could hit 18% next year.

Last week Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “At a time of l economic crisis, the first duty of any government is to reassure people and show they’ve got a plan.”

She added: “This zombie government isn’t stepping up to the plate.”

Mr Gove and his journalist wife Sarah Vine divorced in January after 20 years of marriage. Mr Gove declined to comment on his holiday.
