Sabrina Carpenter’s New Holiday Special ‘A Nonsense Christmas’ Has Everyone’s Bells Jingled

While Sabrina Carpenter‘s name has been in headlines this week thanks to all sorts of speculation around her breakup with Barry Keoghan, the pop princess has gotten into the festive spirit thanks to a new Christmas Netflix special.

Not one to let something as small as a heartbreak stop her from dominating the world (and your Spotify Wrapped), this week the “Espresso” singer dropped A Nonsense Christmas onto Netflix worldwide on December 8.

Nonsense Christmas boasts an A-list cast of guests and cameos who all stopped in for songs and laughs, including Chappell Roan, Tyla, Shania Twain, and Sean Astin AKA my boy Samwise Gamgee as Santa.

In a press release from Netflix before the special’s arrival, Carpenter said she was eager to make the Christmas project as the “the holidays have always been so special” to her.

“I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me,” said Carpenter.

And it is undoubtedly a product of Sabrina Carpenter’s brain. Packed to the brim with all the saucy double entendres and shiny outfits you’d expect from the “Juno” singer, Nonsense Christmas has several Sabrina-styled remixes of Christmas classics, and vice-versa.

To get an idea of what you’re in for, as Carpenter sings in the opening number: “It’s the ho ho ho-iest special of all.”

With her unique style of humour throughout the hour-long special, the Christmas comedy musical has fans celebrating the way Carpenter has ended a huge year for her.

Here’s how fans have reacted since Netflix dropped A Nonsense Christmas.

Reactions to Sabrina Carpenter’s Nonsense Christmas

Viewers flocked to social media to shower praise on the Christmas special, with A Nonsense Christmas quickly earning over 37K reviews on Letterboxd and a four-star average.

Other fans of Sabrina’s flocked to X (formerly Twitter) where they raved about the Netflix holiday special, and some exclaimed they never wanted it to end.

The former Disney star’s comedic abilities were also the source of high praise, with many claiming that the special felt like Carpenter’s audition for a role on the comedy program Saturday Night Live.

Some eagle-eyed viewers also spotted what could be potentially a bit of shade being thrown by Carpenter, toward her favourite celebrity to beef with, Camilla Cabello.

Viewers noticed that one outfit Carpenter wore was awfully close to one worn by Cabello, which fans suspected was a subtle jab at the pop star — currently dating her ex, Shawn Mendes.

Aside from beef, fans were mostly in awe of the performances.

“I can’t believe Sabrina Carpenter invented Christmas,” a fan stated on X. Notably, the tweet did not have any community notes, which means it is true.

Ahh Christmas, the day a pop-princess was born.

Speaking of pop-princesses, the Midwestern Princess Chappell Roan appeared in the special to sing a duet of the 1984 hit “Last Christmas” by Wham! This particular number was hugely popular amongst viewers,

Roan also caught fans’ attention in a short teaser for the Netflix special where she joked with Carpenter about looking “so straight”.

“Not a serious bone in her body,” one fan wrote to TikTok.

If there was any criticism toward A Nonsense Christmas, it was only that none of the songs are available to stream on Spotify.
