Sabrina Carpenter has delivered yet another masterclass in mess during the rollout of her new album Short N’ Sweet, this time reigniting a years-old feud between Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott.
The pocket-sized pop-star is currently in what the Swifties would call a chart battle with Scott, since he released his latest album, Days Before Rodeo, on the very same day that Short N’ Sweet landed. It’s the musical equivalent of Barbenheimer, and I think we can guess who the doll-faced counterpart is in this equation.
Naturally, the pair are now rivals a good old fashioned the race up the Billboard charts, calling to mind a similar top spot tussle between Scott and Minaj in 2018.
At that time, Minaj’s album Queen couldn’t quite receive its Billboard crown, since Scott played by the Swift handbook and re-released bundles of his album Astroworld to increase his sales numbers.
It led to an episode of Minaj’s Apple Music show, Queen Radio, in which the rapper referred to Scott as an “Auto-tune man” and refuted claims he had sold “half a million albums, because he fucking didn’t”.
That was a somewhat tame response from Minaj, especially in light of the great Megan Thee Stallion feud that had me checking my shoe size for the better part of January.
Now, Carpenter has seemingly taken sides in the years-old beef (at the risk of contracting salmonella), sharing a post on X that references the Minaj and Scott debacle.
“this one’s for nicki”, the “Espresso” singer wrote on Friday, all-but confirming she’s a bonafide barb.
It was perhaps a smart move to get on Minaj’s good side (just ask Cardi B), and the Queen herself responded to Carpenter’s tweet during an Instagram Live on the same day. “Shout out to Sabrina Carpenter,” Minaj said, “shout out to all the Sabrina Carpenter fans”.
Minaj and Scott aren’t the only musicians who have been drawn into the Short N’ Sweet universe, with fans quickly theorising upon the album’s release that multiple songs are about her ex Shawn Mendes, and his ex Camilla Cabello.
Petition for all three to work it out on the remix starts now.
