Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet Tour has been a smashing success as it makes its way across the United States. Every day, social media buzzes with new concert videos showing off her latest iconic outfit or a fresh pose during her performance of "Juno."
However, this time, Sabrina and her concert made headlines for a different reason. During her performance at the United Center in Chicago, she was presented with a gift that has become somewhat iconic.
That gift? A Dr. Simi doll, styled to look just like the singer herself. Upon receiving the doll, Sabrina took a moment to appreciate the thoughtful details—the plush figure sporting blonde hair and a yellow dress resembling one of Sabrina's tour outfits.
Amused and grateful, Carpenter joked about the fact that the doll represented a man dressed as her but embraced the quirky gift nonetheless.
"It's very cute. I see the cutout of the dress. Everything else, I'm just getting used to. I think I'll accept it," Sabrina commented as she looked over the Dr. Simi doll on stage. She playfully responded to herself, saying, "Well, you don't really have a choice," before continuing with her show.
As part of her performance, Sabrina spins a wheel to determine which cover song she'll perform, and on this occasion, the lucky Dr. Simi got to witness a flawless rendition of Mamma Mia!
A Recurring Guest
Sabrina Carpenter isn't the first artist to receive her own Dr. Simi, and she's unlikely to be the last. For artists who visit Mexico, receiving a Dr. Simi has become a tradition, with fans customizing the doll to resemble the artist in some way.
Rosalía, for instance, didn't just receive one Dr. Simi during her Motomami Tour—she was gifted an entire army of them, each one uniquely designed. The Spanish singer graciously accepted the dolls, and a photo of her posing with all of them quickly went viral.
Adele has her own collection of Dr. Simi dolls as well, gifted by fans after her shows in Las Vegas. She proudly displayed them on social media. Other artists who have received their own Dr. Simis include Los Tigres del Norte, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Wisin & Yandel, to name a few.
Sabrina can now start her own collection. The gift may even hint at a possible announcement of new tour dates in Mexico and Latin America, as many artists often do after receiving this iconic Mexican gesture.
Who Is Dr. Simi?
The Dr. Simi doll originated as a marketing tactic, designed to draw more customers to Farmacias Similares, a chain of pharmacies in Mexico. The character was created to evoke warmth and friendliness, helping Farmacias Similares establish itself as a trusted option for healthcare needs.
Over the years, Dr. Simi has become a cultural icon in Mexico. The mascot frequently appears in various activities and promotional events, making him a familiar figure across the country.
Since its founding, Farmacias Similares has grown significantly, expanding beyond Mexico to other Latin American countries like Guatemala and Chile. Today, the chain boasts thousands of branches and is valued for its contribution to public health, especially in a context where many Mexicans struggle to access affordable medical services and medications.
