Sabri Lamouchi vows to unlock potential of 'massive club' Cardiff City as he delivers unequivocal response to question over future

Sabri Lamouchi wants to unlock the potential of Cardiff City and is determined to get this "massive" club out of the troublesome situation in which it finds itself.

Lamouchi was appointed as Bluebirds boss on Friday morning, with the club languishing in 21st place in the Championship table. His immediate remit, of course, is to keep the club in the Championship.

However, the future potential of the club has been a big draw for the Frenchman and he is buoyed by the prospect of unlocking it.

"I'm here for the challenge," he said in his first press conference as Bluebirds boss. "It's a massive club. It's a good challenge for me, but it's an exciting challenge for all of us. So I just want to do my job in the best condition. And I think the player as well. So let's start.

"That’s why I’m here, because I believe in the potential of the club. I am absolutely excited. It’s not an easy challenge, but an exciting challenge for all of us.

"I am lucky to be here at this massive club. Of course, I will face problems. But we will, step by step, fix things. Everything? I don’t know. But step by step."

On his appointment, he added: "I want to say thanks to the club to the board, because it's a big responsibility. They called me and I met Ken (Choo), I spoke with Mehmet (Dalman).

"It was a really good discussion. Very quickly, we found the way to finalise and the way to work together, so I'm very happy to be here. I know the situation of the club, but I'm here because I know the history of the club.

"So, it's not the easy challenge, but exciting challenge, I want to start to work with the players, with the team, to talk with the rest of the staff and players.

"And, as you know, we have just three days to try to find the right, and good, players for the team to add and be better. And at the same time we have a game away and the first one is in few days, Tuesday in Luton.

"So, I'm here and really happy to be here and very impatient to start work."

We understand the manager's contract runs only until the end of the season.

Lamouchi, however, was unequivocal in his belief that he would continue if he is able to keep the club in the second tier this season. In his words, he wants to build a future together.

"Talking with the club, it’s easy," he said about his deal. "I am not here just to save the club. I am here to try to have a future together.

"I cannot talk about the future if the job is not done.

"Our goal, my goal, is to work together for a long time. But for that, it’s to do a great job right now until the end of the season. And to see Cardiff in the Championship next season, that’s it."

If he does that, will he be in the dugout next season?

"Absolutely!" he replied.
