Sabri Lamouchi sets Cardiff City's 'locker room DJ' ambitious target before end of the season

Sabri Lamouchi has challenged Sory Kaba to finish the season as Cardiff City's top goalscorer.

The Bluebirds striker has only been at the club for six weeks, but has already notched three goals, including the equaliser against West Brom on Wednesday night.

Given Cardiff's well-documented struggles in front of goal this season, there is now only two players, Callum Robinson and Jaden Philogene, ahead of him in the scoring charts.

With eight games to go, Lamouchi said Kaba should have his sights on overtaking Robinson, who is three goals ahead of him, before the final whistle away at Burnley on May 8.

Robinson will miss the Rotherham United game this weekend due to injury, while Lamouchi also said he could be touch and go for the Swansea City game on April 1 after the international break, meaning Kaba could use the next couple of matches to start chipping away at the Irishman's lead.

"This is the challenge for him, to be the best scorer for this team," Lamouchi said of Kaba. "He can do that. He has scored important goals and has given us important points.

"He has done a good job and I'm happy for him and the team.

"If he scores the more goals he will be the best scorer in the club. I know the players all have their personal challenges. So probably this is the challenge for Sory Kaba.

"But for us, we have just one target; to play in the Championship next season. So with a Kaba goal, a (Jaden) Philogene goal or a Kion (Etete) goal, or a (Connor) Wickham goal, we just want to get the points to be safe."

Kaba is clearly well thought of at the club and fans have taken to him incredibly quickly. Indeed, he is already becoming something of a cult hero due to not only his goals but his personality.

And it appears that infectiousness has permeated the squad, too. Despite only arriving on deadline day in January, the striker, on loan from Mitdjylland, is already on DJ duties in the changing room.

"He is a very pleasant boy. He tries to communicate with everyone; players, staff, people working in the building and in the club. He is absolutely a lovely guy," Lamouchi added.

"He makes the playlist for the music in the locker room! It's a long discussion, this, for me, is new, but you can ask him or the players about the playlist and if they are happy with the music or not!"

Whether Kaba can find his rhythm up at Rotherham on Saturday afternoon will likely go a long way to boosting City's chances of coming back from Yorkshire with three points. They could have Connor Wickham back, too, with the striker back training after missing the last two games through injury.

The Bluebirds sit four points above the relegation zone, just a single point below Saturday's opponents.

Speaking about the game, which is being dubbed by some as a relegation six-pointer, Lamouchi said: "It's an important game, just like the eight other games. But this one before the international break, with three, one or no points, it will not be the same pleasure.

"Of course, the players know what they have to do, we know exactly which kind of game they will face and we are ready for that.

"It will be tough. They played their last game at home and lost against Preston. It's not easy to go there and get points but we will try and go there and put in a great performance and get a result."

Cardiff take on Rotherham at 3pm on Saturday.
