Rylan Clark tells BBC The One Show he got 'so ill' as he admits why he removed ex husband's texts from memoir

Rylan Clark appeared on BBC's The One show on Thursday night (September 29) where he opened up about his marriage breakdown. The TV personality, who found fame after appearing on The X Factor in 2012, spoke to Alex Jones and Roman Kemp about his 'awful' year.

The 33-year-old married his ex-husband Dan Neal in 2015 but they marriage broke down last year, which caused Rylan to suffer from depression. The Celebrity Big Brother winner admitted he got 'so ill' after his relationship crumbled and revealed how it was difficult to write about his break up in his upcoming memoir.

Rylan previously revealed that the ending of his marriage led him to try to end his life after telling his ex-husband, who he met on Big Brother's Bit on the Side whilst Rylan was hosting, that he had cheated on him.

The TV star has now released his new book Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, which looks back at the last 10 years from finding fame on The X Factor in 2012 up until now, where he details the reasons why his marriage ended for the first time.

During the latest The One Show, Rylan revealed why his memoir opened with his marriage split, reports The Mirror.

He said, gesturing to Alex: "Just to get it out of the way. Obviously last year was awful and we were speaking a lot and One Show actually, hosting, was one of the first thing that I properly got back into with you after I got quite ill last year."

The Strictly It Takes Two presenter also spoke about how difficult it was writing honestly about the dark time in his life.

He said: “It was harder writing about it than actually living in it which is quite strange.

"Because I started writing the book before my marriage ended and then all of a sudden I am writing the book and the book becomes a different book because it's a massive part of my life."

Rylan and his husband Dan were married for six years (PA)

Rylan went on: "There was things that I were going to put in the book that I ended up (not doing) from a legal point of view and not that it was anything salacious, just things like I would receive a text saying x, y, z and the legal team would be like 'can you just show us that text so we can prove it if ever' and I was like 'sure' and just scrolling back, 'I can't do this', so I took it out because I didn't want to live it.

"I got so ill last year that I don't need to do that."

In an extract from his book Ten: The Decade That Changed My Life, which has been published by The Sun, Rylan says he knew when he started experiencing suicidal thoughts that it was time to get help.

"I sat Mum down and told her I needed to be locked up.

"I said, ‘I can’t do it any more.’ I could see in her eyes that she couldn’t believe what was happening to her baby. She called my big brother Jamie and my managers and they arranged for me to go to a mental health hospital where they knew I would be well looked after."

After spending a week in hospital, Rylan came home and moved in with his mum, but after another spell of bad thoughts, was admitted to hospital again.

The turning point came when his mum secretly arranged for his 'showbiz step-parents' Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford to visit him, he said.
