Rylan Clark gives update on Big Brother hosting job

Rylan Clark has said he “would love” to host Big Brother when it returns to screens next year, but admits he is yet to be asked.

The Celebrity Gogglebox star, 33, won Celebrity Big Brother in 2013 and went on to host spin-off show Bit on the Side for the next five years. Last month, it was announced the iconic reality show is being rebooted by ITV2, with Rylan becoming a bookies’ favourite to take on hosting duties.

Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine on Friday to promote his new memoir, Ten: The Decade that Changed My Future, Rylan confirmed he would love to take on the role. He said: “I love that show with my life, I’ve got a Diary Room in my house, I am that sad fan, that’s me.”

Christine Lampard – who was filling in for regular host Lorraine Kelly – then revealed Rylan would be her top choice to front the new series alongside This Morning host Alison Hammond, who appeared in the third series of Big Brother in 2002. Rylan continued: “I’ll be completely honest, I've made no secret for the last five years since it's been off air, I want Big Brother back.

“I’ve spoken to Davina [McCall], I’ve spoken to Emma [Willis] – there’s no point in lying, of course I’d love to go back to Big Brother, it feels like my second home. It changed my life.

“I met my ex on Big Brother, I got married [and] subsequently divorced from it. My whole life has been Big Brother.”

However, the TV presenter and author went on to admit he is still waiting for a call from ITV bosses. He said: “I don’t know what they are doing at the moment, they are still making decisions.

“It might be a fresh new team. Whoever it is I just hope they look after it, you’ve got to love that show.

“Hopefully I’ll be working on it, just putting it out there.”

Big Brother first aired on Channel 4 in 2000 and ran for 11 series before it moved to Channel 5 in 2011, where its nineteenth and final series aired in 2018. It has now been recommissioned by ITV2 and is set for a comeback next year, with the 2023 edition to air on ITV2 and ITVX.
