Rylan Clark 'begged' husband Dan to return home as his drinking got 'out of control'

Rylan Clark has admitted he "begged" husband Dan Neal to return home after their split and said his drinking was "out of control", as he opened up about the impact of the divorce on his mental health.

The TV presenter, 33, tied the knot with 43-year-old Dan in 2015, but announced their separation in July last year. Rylan said he had been unfaithful to Dan "years ago" but only decided to tell his partner in May 2021, causing their six-year marriage to break down.

Speaking at an event in London on Wednesday night, Rylan told the audience he had suffered two heart failures amid the breakdown of his marriage.

"Twice last year I ended up in the back of an ambulance because my heart failed."

He spoke about his health while celebrating the launch of his new book Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future at the Royal Festival Hall in London, as reported by The Sun.

Speaking at his An Evening With Rylan he said he hasn't seen Dan since they separated, despite asking him to come home.

Rylan - who rose to fame on the X Factor in 2012 - also explained that he was "frightened of being alone", which added to his mental health problems.

According to Metro, he said at his event: "I think I was so frightened of being alone that I think that's what contributed to my downfall and my spiral that I was in."

The outlet reports that Rylan said he has since learnt to be comfortable on his own and he described that as a "really important lesson" to learn in his early thirties.

Rylan previously talked about the health issues he suffered during his divorce on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast.

"My body did completely shut down and I wouldn’t eat," he said.

"I went through a stage where I couldn’t even talk, which for some people might be quite handy.

“My speech was just slurred. My mum thought I was having a stroke. My body just went. I went down to 9st and I am six-foot-four," Rylan added.
