Police are hunting for a knife-wielding attacker after a man was stabbed in the neck in a Peckham shop.

Detectives are searching for an attempted murder suspect after the victim was attacked on Rye Lane, opposite the John The Unicorn pub, last Thursday at around 10.30pm.

The 62-year-old victim was found with stab wound injuries to his neck and thigh, which were life-threatening at the time.

The man was treated in hospital but has since been discharged.

The suspect has been described as a black man, approximately 5ft 4ins, and aged in his 40s, with a stocky build and a short beard.

He was wearing a black jacket with wording printed on it at the time of the offence.

Met Detective Constable, Jacob Ludlam, of the local investigations team, said: “We are urging anyone who may have been in Peckham Rye that evening to please think back and let us know if you saw or heard anything suspicious.

"Whilst our enquiries are ongoing, it appears at this stage to be an unprovoked attack.

“The incident occurred opposite John The Unicorn pub, so if you were there that night or knew anyone that was, please get in touch with us online or call 101 quoting reference 01/1168928/24.

"Alternatively you can report it to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“Any snippets of information could be vital to our investigation. Thank you.”
