With summer holidays approaching, many people across Ireland will be making plans to jet off to sunnier climates.
One way to save money when travelling abroad is to prepare food before setting off for the airport that you can bring on the plane.
Irish airport departures lounges are full restaurants and cafes, but the options can be notoriously pricey.
Different airlines have different rules when it comes to bringing food onto a plane, so it's important to aware of their regulations to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.

So, what are the rules when it comes to taking food onboard a plane in your hand luggage?
Any liquids over 100ml cannot be taken through security at the majority of airports. Liquids 100ml or under have to be in a sealed plastic bag. This can include some food such as jam, chutney or yoghurt.
According to Dublin Airport: "Normal food stuffs, such as crisps and chocolate, are fine to bring in your hand baggage. Packs or tubs of butter and margarine are not allowed as they are considered a paste."
The guidance from each airline differs. Here's the rules for taking food onboard a Ryanair flight.
Ryanair
You can take whatever food or soft drinks you like on a Ryanair plane, as long as it meets hand-luggage dimension and weight restrictions.
Hot drinks are not allowed for safety reasons, and passengers cannot consume their own alcohol during the flight.
A spokesperson said: "In the interest of safety we cannot allow passengers to board the plane with hot drinks or consume their own alcohol during the flight."
