A budget TikToker has discovered a simple hack that can get you a full row of seats to yourself on Ryanair flights. The hack is the perfect way to secure yourself plenty of room on the plane.
Rob Adcock shared a video of him changing his seat on his flight Menorca to East Midlands Airport. The TikToker claims there’s a simple trick to get a “free upgrade” and called himself an “actual genius”.
He shared that he checks in for his flight as normal, but checks the option for a free random allocator seat when the website asks you, MyLondon reports. He said: “Do not pay! Then just before the flight, go back onto the [Ryanair] app, click ‘Manage’ in the top corner and change.”

Here he advised to click ‘Change’ next to the option which read, “You’re sitting in the Middle seat. Would you like to change?”. “Then it shows you a list of all the seats that are empty on the flight,” Rob said.
“Close the app, do not switch your seat, do not pay. Then what I do is find a couple seats where there’s no one in them, ideally extra legroom towards the front of the plane, then brazenly just go sit in it.
“I’ve been doing it for ages. The flight attendants have never asked me for my seat number yet. A nice seat away from being crammed in.”
Rob’s TikTok video received over 2.2million views, racking up over 139,000 likes and 571 comments, as a Ryanair employee praised him for his hack. They wrote: “Coming from a Ryanair cabin crew member I can say that is genius but if you get caught there could be some issues for you.”
Another said: “Works very well. Also, the Ryanair cabin crew, if you ask politely, will always allow you to change seats if the seat is free.”
A third commented, “If you wait till the last possible second then don’t pick a seat you always get the extra leg room,” while a fourth said, “I've tried this before but it stopped allowing me to choose my seat a day before my flight”. A fifth warned: “Do not do this on rows 29 to 33 on ryanair. The last 5 rows are weight sensitive, after a head count anybody who shouldn't be sat there will be moved.”
Ryanair’s seating policy is as follows: “Ryanair offers the option to purchase reserved seats or free seats, which are assigned randomly during check-in. Passengers who choose ‘random seat allocation’ can check in between 24 hours and 2 hours before the flight departure time.
“If you purchase a seat at the time of booking, during check-in, or at any point leading-up to your flight, you can choose where to sit and that seat will be reserved for you. Online check-in opens 60 days before the scheduled departure time if you have purchased an allocated seat.”
