Most passengers who fly with Ryanair have come to expect a no-frills experience to go along with the low basic ticket prices. The budget airline is famous for offering cheap seats that will come with further charges for all kinds of extras should passengers want them.
Cutting back on things such as checked-in luggage helps to keep costs low, but it appears that occasionally people can be left bewildered by some of the other economies while taking advantage of the budget experience. One Ryanair passenger took to Twitter when he was shocked to discover that the usual seat pocket was missing on his flight, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Twitter user Type1Tony wrote: “You don’t even get seat pockets in a Ryanair flight?!” and added a laughing emoji. He accompanied the tweet with a photo of the seat in front of him, which featured safety instructions, a fold out tray - but with the usual pouch netting missing.
Ryanair offered a tongue-in-cheek response to the tweet. The airline jokingly suggested that the passenger should store any belongings in a different kind of pocket — his own.
Other Twitter users were soon in on the joke. One, called Richard, chipped in: “You must be able to buy pockets surely as an extra?!” to which Ryanair responded: “We call them pants, Richard.”
Another pointed out that it’s actually quite beneficial for passengers as they would not leave anything behind by accident. The user stated: “Personal items forgotten in the seat pocket: 0.”
Someone else suggested that it helped with keeping the plane clean. Izzet Akif wrote: “Makes it faster for cleaning, which means shorter ground time, which means more flights per airplane, which means cheaper flights for us all.”
While Garin Fitter implied that it was probably a good thing Ryanair did not supply seat-back pockets. He wrote: “Let’s be honest, people only want seat pockets so they can shove sweet wrappers in them.”
And an account holder with the handle Keernokner cheekily asked Ryan how much it would charge for a passenger to have their own seat pocket, to which Ryanair responded: "We'll call it a fiver, as admin's feeling generous."
