Ryanair expect flights to Spain, France and Italy to be delayed over the next 48 hours

Ryanair has confirmed that it expects to see some disruption to flights across Europe over the coming days.

The airline said disruptions on Saturday and Sunday are predicted, mainly in France, Italy and Spain, due to a two day strike in the French Air Traffic Control centre in Marseille.

In a statement, it said: "Ryanair expects some disruptions on Saturday /Sunday – mainly in France, Italy and Spain – due to a 2 day strike in the French Air Traffic Control centre in Marseille which will significantly delay or impact flights crossing French airspace."

Any passengers affected by the Air Traffic Control strike or staff shortages will be notified ahead of travel by email or text.

Ryanair said less than two per cent of its 3,000 flights on Friday had been affected by strikes. It added that disruptions were mainly confined to minor delays in Belgium, where over 60 per cent of Ryanair's scheduled flights to and from Charleroi and Zaventem would operate today.

A statement read: "There were no flight disruptions in Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, France or Ireland as the vast majority of Ryanair crews are working normally.

"Over this weekend (25th & 26th June), Ryanair expects minimal (if any) disruption to its flight schedules as a result of these very minor and poorly supported work stoppages."

The news comes after Ryanair cabin crews across Europe announced strikes after workers demanded compliance with the law and better pay and working conditions.

Here's everything we know about the key strike dates.

Belgium

Trade unions representing the cabin crew of Ryanair (RYA.I) plan a strike from June 24 to June 26.

The ACV and BBTK unions said they were forced into action because Ryanair was not respecting Belgian labour law covering such issues as the minimum wage or pay of cabin staff for certain pre and post-flight work.

Portugal

Ryanair's Portuguese cabin crew have said a three day strike will go ahead on June 24, 25 and 26.

Workers are demanding compliance with Portuguese law and better working conditions.

Portugal's union of civil aviation personnel SNPVAC said: "This mobilisation is not only an opportunity to put the spotlight on multiple attacks on workers' dignity and to make this reality known but also a moment to show unity and solidarity against dumping."

Spain

The strike in Spain will take place on June 24, 25, 26 and 30, and on July 1 and 2.

Workers have cited discontent with working conditions and pay as the reason for the strike.

Italy

Ryanair's Italian cabin crew will strike on June 25.

Unions FILT-CGIL and UIL Trasporti said they sought improved pay and conditions after staging a four-hour stoppage earlier in June.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: " Ryanair has negotiated collective agreements covering 90 per cent of our people across Europe. In recent months we have been negotiating improvements to those agreements as we work through the Covid recovery phase.

"Those negotiations are going well, and we do not expect widespread disruption this summer."
