Ryanair confirms new rules for passengers bringing alcohol aboard flights

Passengers have praised an airline for its new rules surrounding alcohol, with many saying it's "about time." Ryanair have issued an update confirming new rules for some duty-free items on flights following rumours earlier this month that alcohol would be banned from its flights.

The budget airline has stated that it is not banning booze, but passengers will not be able to open any alcohol purchased in duty-free on board the plane. A spokesperson for the airline said: “We are not ‘banning’ or ‘confiscating’ duty-free alcohol at boarding gates.

"As per Ryanair’s T&Cs, passengers can carry duty-free alcohol onboard but must not consume it during the flight.” Many passengers are pleased about the new rule, especially those who have been affected by people drinking previously on planes reports The Liverpool Echo.

One customer wrote on Facebook that it was "the best news [she] could hear." She added: ""How people just can't wait until they arrive in their destination to have alcohol I'll never know."

Another passenger wrote: "Good....while most of us could be trusted, there's always those that spoil it for everyone and unfortunately put lives at risk when they kick off fighting in-flight. So this is a good thing."

A third person said the ban is 'for the best', whilst another felt it was "about time, before something tragic happens'."

Other customers felt the rule "should be everywhere not just here" and hope other airlines might do the same. One person wrote: "Good, poor cabin crew dealing with drunks and other passengers frightened in case they kick off fighting."

Another said: "The way some of these drunk passengers carry on during flight I'm surprised drinking on planes is not banned altogether."
