Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been nominated for the Week 11 FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week award.
We are used to Derrick Henry consistently being in the conversation for the Ground Player of the Week — perhaps he should get some consideration here for his jump pass to Austin Hooper, am I right — but it’s good to see Tannehill getting recognized for his efforts.
At any rate, Tannehill put together his best game of the season in one of the most critical games for the Titans. It’s hard for teams to go into Lambeau Field and make the Packers look bad, but that’s precisely what the Titans did.
The veteran quarterback was remarkably accurate, connecting on 22 of his 27 pass attempts, which included passes to receivers Treylon Burks for 51 and 43 yards, Robert Woods for 32 yards, and tight end Chig Okonkwo for 31 yards down the middle.
In just his second game back from injury, Tannehill threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns, marking the 13th time in his career that he’s thrown for at least 300 yards with multiple touchdowns in a game.
He’s up against tough competition for the award in the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, who threw for 355 yards and four scores, and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who went for 329 yards and three touchdowns in a comeback effort on “Sunday Night Football”.
Whether he takes the award or not, it’s certainly a positive to see Tannehill connecting down the field with several different receivers after all the question marks surrounding the passing game in training camp.
