Ryan Reynolds was left red-faced after asking Wrexham player what a yellow card was

Ryan Reynolds was left red-faced after asking Wrexham top scorer Paul Mullin what a yellow card was in his first game as new owner.

Reynolds, alongside Rob McElhenney became co-owners of the football club a year ago, helping guide Wrexham to a second place finish and coming so close to promotion last season, losing to Grimsby Town in the semi-finals of the play-offs. They would also suffer heartbreak in an FA Trophy Cup final loss to Bromley.

But the two owners are certainly well liked in Wrexham, with their 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary watched by millions and recently commissioned for a second series. Reynolds and McElhenney have gone to as many games as they can, flying over from their homes in the United States to the small northern Welsh city after first purchasing the club.

And after the deal was finalised, the two went to the Racecourse Ground for the first time to see a 1-1 draw with Torquay United.

During the game, Reynolds spoke with star striker Mullin, who had been injured at the time, with the striker revealing a comical and somewhat embarrassing moment for the new owner.

Speaking on the Rich Eisen show, Mullin said: "They didn't show this in the documentary, but there's one game, their first game, where someone got a yellow card and Ryan asked me if that meant they had to leave the field! Now though, they are right into it. They know all the rules."

The documentary shows how the two owners have changed the fortunes of the football club, as well as their work in and around the community of Wrexham.

Speaking on the owners, Mullin said: "It was a bit strange at first, getting used to Hollywood movie stars being about but they are genuine people and we love working for them. Since they have taken over the club, they have galvanised the town.

"They gave everyone a real lift, at the club and around the community. I think that has been shown in the documentary. They have taken the club to new heights."
