Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film expected to be released in 2024, it has been revealed. The 53-year-old Australian actor's return was teased in a clip shared on social media on Tuesday (September 27) and his short cameo quickly sent fans into a frenzy.
The video showed 45-year-old Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds - who will also be reprising his role as the foul-mouthed anti-hero Deadpool in the third instalment - talking about the process behind making the new Deadpool film before announcing the big news. It has since received more than one million likes and been viewed more than 30 millon times.
Ryan teased the news, posting the caption "hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one" alongside the video. “Hey everyone, we are extremely sad to have missed D23 but we have been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now," He began.
"I’ve had to really search my soul on this one, his first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth and motivation, new meaning. Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart.
"It has been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down, deep inside and I.. have nothing. Just completely empty up here and terrifying. But we did have one idea."
Hugh is then seen walking through the hall, eating food, whilst heading up the stairs and Ryan says: "Hey Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” and Hugh replies: “Yeah, sure Ryan.”
Australian actor Hugh played the Marvel character, Wolverine, in eight X-Men films from 2000 until 2016 and was last seen in the role in the standalone movie Logan in 2017. Hugh also made a brief appearance in the second Deadpool film - the Deadpool character first appeared in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, before getting his own spin-off series - with films in 2016 and 2018.
The Deadpool 3 film launch date is currently scheduled for September 6 2024.
