Johnny Depp’s name has unexpectedly entered the widening legal and public relations dispute involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, following the release of newly unsealed text messages connected to the case.

The messages, which became public on Thursday, involve Ryan Reynolds and his talent agent, Warren Zavala. According to documents obtained by TMZ, the exchange took place in August 2024 as Reynolds and Zavala discussed growing tensions surrounding It Ends With Us and Baldoni’s role in the behind-the-scenes conflict that would later spill into court filings.

In the text thread, Zavala allegedly criticized Baldoni’s behavior, accusing him of having an inflated ego and attempting to manage the public narrative around the situation. The tone of the messages suggests concern that the dispute could escalate if more details reached the media.

Reynolds reportedly warned that public perception can quickly turn when private conversations become public. In doing so, he referenced Depp’s highly publicized legal battle with Amber Heard, asking, “How’d that work out for Depp??” The comment appeared to be a cautionary note about how messy and unpredictable public legal fights can become once they play out in the court of public opinion.

Zavala allegedly replied that the Depp–Heard case ultimately caused damage to both parties involved. The conversation then grew more blunt. The unsealed messages reportedly include Zavala describing Baldoni as “egotistical,” while Reynolds dismissed Baldoni as a “human rounding error,” a phrase that has since drawn attention for its sharpness.

Depp’s own legal history remains one of the most closely watched celebrity court battles of the past decade. His defamation lawsuit against Heard concluded in 2022, when a jury awarded Depp $10.35 million in damages. Heard was awarded $2 million on her counterclaim. In the years since, Depp has gradually returned to public life, appearing at major international film festivals and reestablishing his presence in the entertainment world.

Heard, meanwhile, relocated to Spain and has kept a lower public profile. The broader Lively and Baldoni dispute has continued to draw in high-profile names. Other recently unsealed documents reportedly reference figures such as Taylor Swift and Jameela Jamil, adding to the growing media attention surrounding the case and expanding the circle of celebrity involvement.

Speculation about tension between Lively and Baldoni first began circulating in August 2024, while both were connected to It Ends With Us. The situation escalated later that year when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, alleging sexual harassment. Baldoni denied the allegations and responded with a $400 million countersuit against both Lively and Reynolds.

That countersuit was ultimately dismissed by a judge in June 2025, but the legal and reputational fallout continues to unfold. With the release of more private communications, the case is increasingly shaped not just by court filings but also by the public’s reaction to the words exchanged behind closed doors.
