Ryan Reynolds posts lovely tweet for the people of Wrexham after club's promotion celebrations

Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds may have been up all night celebrating his team's momentous win but the celebrations are well deserved. A heartfelt tweet the morning after the night before showed just how much it meant to the Wrexham AFC co-owner as he said: "Everything I own smells like champagne, beer and grass."

Reynolds and fellow owner Rob McElhenney were in the stands on Saturday night as they watched their team beat Boreham Wood 3-1 and were promoted to the Football League, the first time in 15 years. It was an ending almost as Hollywood as the celebrities who've descended on the north Wales town since the arrival of Reynolds and McElhenney in 2021.

The scenes at the final whistle saw the two men hugging with McElhenney on the verge of tears. You can see the best pictures from the night here.

Less than 12 hours later, Reynolds thanked the town on Twitter and said: "Everything I own smells like champagne, beer and grass. I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing. This town and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @Wrexham_AFC."

It's likely the fans will be equally thankful to the men who saved their club from the brink and gave the players and supporters renewed hope they could be great again. Rival fans like to chant 'Where were you when you were s***?" to an inflated fanbase.

The supporters knew it was possible but Ryan Reynolds showed that it could be done. So it's a big "Thank you" from Ryan Reynolds to the people of Wrexham - and a massive "diolch" to the stars who have brought a fairy tale ending for long-suffering fans.
