Ryan Reynolds backs cyclists riding from Cardiff to Edinburgh in memory of Doddie Weir

Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds has backed the 200 cyclists that are partaking in the Doddie Cup 555 as they began their journey from Cardiff to Murrayfield on Thursday.

The co-owner of Wrexham AFC, who runs the club alongside Always Sunny star Rob McElhenney, says that the riders will be welcomed by open arms at The Racecourse Ground, the stadium that is home to Wrexham on Friday morning, February 10.

The Deadpool actor also wished the riders good luck as they set off on their arduous journey from Wales to Scotland.

Reynolds and McElhenney have stolen the hearts of viewers around the world as their efforts to transform the fortunes of Wrexham AFC have been documented on Disney+ in the hit show ‘Welcome to Wrexham', the Daily Record reports.

The Marvel maverick, who is married to Hollywood star Blake Lively, has cheered on all of the participants in the Doddie Cup 555.

The 46-year-old said: “This is a message for the entire team on this incredible MND ride. I just wanna wish you guys all the best – go get ‘em! What an incredible cause. It’s a wonderful thing you’re all doing.

“I hear you may stop off at the Racecourse Ground, so enjoy it – it’s a pretty magical place, and best of luck to each and every one of you.”

The Doddie Cup 555 Ride kicked off on Thursday morning at Principality Stadium, Cardiff, in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Doddie Weir’s Scotland and British & Irish Lions teammate Rob Wainwright leads the cyclists on their journey from Wales to Edinburgh.

The Scots rugby legend died in November at the age of 52, six years after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).

Riders are now embarking on a gruelling route via rugby clubs across Wales, England, and Scotland in time for the Scotland vs Wales Six Nations Championship match on Saturday (February 11).

The star-studded team, including Sir Chris Hoy MBE, Mark Beaumont, former England captain Martin Johnson, and former Scotland international Carl Hogg, will attempt to make the trip in just 48 hours.
