Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney broke Wrexham "rule" with celebrity fans

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have admitted to breaking a golden rule between themselves after inviting a whole host of celebrity fans to the Racecourse Ground throughout Wrexham's promotion season.

Wrexham secured a spot into the Football League for the first time in 15 years after clinching the National League title ahead of rivals Notts County last month. It capped off a remarkable year for the Welsh side under the ownership of Hollywood duo Reynolds and McElhenney.

The promotion to League 2 had a feeling of redemption for the two owners, after they were defeated at Wembley last season against Bromley in the FA Trophy Final.

Referencing back to their Wembley disappointment 12 months ago, Reynolds and McElhenney discussed how they made the decision to ban fellow a-listers from attending matches in a superstitious bid not to lose matches. This has since been broken though, with a number of huge names attending the Racecourse throughout the campaign.

Most notably Elf, Anchorman and Step Brothers star Will Ferrell attended last year's Wembley defeat, before returning for this season's home victory against Wealdstone.

Alluding to their pact being broken, McElhenney revealed on the RobRyanRed-Wrexham Podcast: "We didn't stick to it Ryan, after we lost at Wembley in the FA Trophy final, we decided on no more celebrities because they were a bad luck charm.

"But I guess we don't have to worry about that anymore!" Interjecting co-owner Reynolds added: "Will [Ferrell] saw a great game I know that. Emma [Corrin] saw an amazing match as well." Continuing to reel off their celebrity guest list, McElhenney interjected: " Glenn [Howerton], Charlie [Day] and Kaitlin [Olson]."

Reynolds continued: "Glenn, Charlie and Kaitlin saw a great one. Yeah then of course there was Paul [Rudd] and Joe Russo, they saw just the most incredible thing." To celebrate their promotion Reynolds and McElhenney treated the playing to an all-expenses trip to Las Vegas.

Lifting the lid on the trip, club captain Ben Tozer told Talksport: "The flight wasn’t direct, which was the only hitch, apart from that we can’t complain.

"We got there Thursday dinner time, they took us to Hakkasan for dinner which was amazing and then we went to Hakkasan Nightclub and they treated us to the best tables and it was just insane really. Almost everything was insane.

“The next day they took us to Wet Republic Pool Party which was again the best tables and the best layout for us and everything was free, then in the evening was Omnia Nightclub and four of us got to go up on stage with Steve Aoki.

“The next day was Marquee Pool Party followed by dinner out on the balcony at the Bellagio then we were at XS Nightclub where The Chainsmokers were playing, again everything was the best treatment, it was outrageous... It’s been so surreal and the owners are just incredible."
