Ryan Porteous is set to depart Hibs this month with several clubs chasing the centre-back, chief executive Ben Kensell has confirmed.
The Scotland international, 23, turned down an increased contract offer to remain at the club with his current deal up in the summer.
And Kensell - who announced Hibs are searching to appoint a director of football - has confirmed clubs are interested in Porteous with a departure this month expected.
He told the club website: "I think we have firstly got to point out that Ryan has been a fantastic servant for the club - we have had nothing but positive discussions throughout.
"Ryan is likely to leave the club in this window. There are two, three, several options that Ryan could choose from.
"But ultimately that will come down to Ryan. We are looking to extract the best deal for the club whilst also looking for the best deal possible for Ryan."
Lee Johnson previously stated that he was keen on reducing his squad numbers in the January transfer window.
Kensell echoed the manager's comments but admitted the club could do signing business if players of "real quality" are available to improve the current squad.
He commented: "As the Manager has stated publicly, we have to trim our squad, so we’re focused on outs.
"If there’s someone we can bring in that is better than what we have, and brings real quality to the squad, then we will do that, but it has to be quality over quantity.
"In the immediate short-term I will continue to negotiate the terms of the ins and outs, and I’m sure it’ll be a busy window from that perspective."
"It means a lot (for recruitment), but it also means that it’s one of many areas that a Director of Football will need to work with and alongside," said Hibs of how an incoming director of football will affect recruitment.
"We want someone with a recruitment bias, they need to have experience in that area. I need someone with knowledge in the Scottish game. I want them to have worked with and for big clubs in senior positions, and I want that football expertise.
"There will be a review of all the processes and practices that we have in place, and Ian (Gordon), and the recruitment team, are no different. We need to improve in all aspects of our football strategy."
Discussing the transfer window previously, Johnson stated: “The first thing we need to do is trim the squad. We’ve got far too many players at the club and far too many players who I don’t see as infiltrating the first-team over the short to medium term.
“It can cause you problems when you have an overinflated squad, because people want to play football.”
