Ryan Porteous fumes at Hibs red card appeal decision as he vents on social media with 'rules of the game' explainer

Incensed Hibernian star Ryan Porteous has taken to Instagram to vent after his red card appeal was rejected by the Scottish FA appeals panel.

Porteous was sent off for a tackle on Ross McCrorie in Hibs' 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday which comes with an automatic three match ban.

But the Leith club chose to appeal the decision, and it was subsequently rejected as the panel opted to stick by referee Alan Muir's on-field decision.

An additional match was added on to the ban as the panel deemed Hibs to have had "no prospect" of winning the appeal.

Responding to the decision, the Scotland under-21's cap maintained his plea that it was not a red card under the rules of the game.

He attached an image of the tackle to his Instagram story along with this text: "Stonewall penalty.

"However, eyes clearly focused on the ball and a genuine attempt made.

"Yellow card going by the rules of the game."

The 22-year-old will miss Hibs' next four Premiership matches as the Leith club look to secure a European spot.

However he will be free to face Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi final on April 16 as the ban only applies to league games.

His manager Shaun Maloney agreed with the decision to award Aberdeen their second penalty after Porteous' challenge but wasn't pleased with the decision to shown him a red card.

He said: "if you make an attempt to get the ball then it's not a red card".
