Ryan Porteous could yet see out the season as a Hibs player and leave on a free transfer.
The Scotland international is out of contract in the summer and is still to make a final decision on his future. Record Sport have revealed how Blackburn Rovers have tabled a six-figure bid for the big defender. English Championship rivals Watford are also keen, while Udinese and Toulouse have also expressed recent interest.
Watford’s offer is more likely to see him sign a pre-contract and move south in the summer for nothing. The Vicarage Road outfit are owned by the same group as Italian side Udinese. Hibs power brokers would prefer for him to go in this window and for the club to recoup a fee and future add-ons for a player who has come through their ranks. Porteous, however, knows he could land more of a personal financial package if there is no transfer fee involved and there remains a stand-off.
As it stands, it could be a case of who blinks first as the transfer window countdown.
It was widely tipped that the weekend derby defeat at home to Hearts would be his last Hibs appearance but he could still be available for the weekend clash with Aberdeen.
