Ryan Kent has been told to bring more to the table by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The under-fire winger has been faced criticism this week after a fruitless performance on his return to Anfield. Kent returned to his former club as Rangers were swept aside 2-0 in the Champions League and his latest European outing faced criticism from pundits including Ally McCoist and Rio Ferdinand after he failed to make an impact.
Now Van Bronckhorst has urged exceptional Kent to show his qualities more often after watching the Englishmen net his first goal of the season against Hearts last weekend. Now Van Bronckhorst has called for a repeat of that attacking display in which the attacker set up Antonio Colak for the opener at Tynecastle. The Dutchman said: “Ryan has to bring more. He is an exceptional player with a lot of qualities.
“The performance he had against Hearts last weekend was really good with a lot of threat going forward. I think his qualities haven’t been there every game.
"He needs to be consistent and get into the best positions on the pitch to be dangerous, to either have an assist or score from a chance he creates himself.
“The goal he scored against Hearts is a great example when he comes in and makes sure he hits the target. He is definitely a player who can give us more goals and assists.”
Rangers face St Mirren at Ibrox today with Van Bronckhorst asking his side to learn from another sobering night in the Champions League.
The Rangers boss also hinted at the possibility of strike force Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos being used together.
Van Bronckhorst added: "I think at moments in games they are definitely capable of playing together.
"We will have to wait and see in which games we could use them together - either from the start or in the moments of the game when maybe we need a goal.
"But they can definitely be on the pitch at the same time."
